happy voting

Told Emma that we had to vote today. Asked her who she was going to vote for - Obama or John McCain. Her response - my daddy. I am voting for my daddy.

little sickie

Emma is in pure misery. It started out with a cold last Friday night/Saturday. I am certain it has turned into a sinus infection. I brought her in to the doctor yesterday. We had to see someone that we had never seen before. She told me that she wouldn't treat Emma with antibiotics until she's had these symptoms for two weeks, because it's not common for little kids to get sinus infections. You've got to be kidding me! TWO WEEKS!! Emma has had a history of sinus infections. She had every symptom the doctor rattled off and still nothing. She barely flashed the light at Emma's nose, looked at her ears, felt her tummy and sent us home with instructions to give her tylenol if she's uncomfortable. Serious?! She cried herself to sleep the other night and was asking for the ice pack so she could put it on her eyebrows because her head hurts. I'm supposed to let her suffer for another week!! Not only that, I've paid one co-pay already. Everytime we bring her in, it's another $25. That adds up.

Well, we know never to see her again! I messaged her pediatrician. Hoping someone will do something for my miserable little baby.

going for a swim

We were at Nick and Julie's for a little end of fall get-together. They had just landscaped their backyard. They put in a little garden pond. The kids had been playing great all night. All of the guys were down by the campfire. The ladies were up on the deck. The kids were all over the place - up and down - on the deck, in the yard, on the deck...I think you get the point. It was dark. Miss Emma was playing with Omar's Cabbage Patch baby and his Spider Man phone. She was down in the grass. All of a sudden, I hear this big sploosh. And then Emma screaming bloody friggin murder. She climbed up on the retaining wall with the baby and phone and walked right into the pond. Soaked from the chest down. Soggy new shoes. Sopping baby. Broken phone. I rushed over and she told me, "I was scared, Momma. I went in the pond. My baby is wet." Tear. We got her into a pair of Omar's jammies and she was good to go. Miss Em sure is good at finding trouble!

suck up

I was in the kitchen making lunch and in walks Miss Emma. She grabs my leg and looks up at me. Then out of her little mouth, she says, "Momma, you're the best momma ever!" I told her that was very sweet. She looked up at me again and said, "Momma, you're my best friend" Ahh...she is a little sweetheart!

we found a puggie!

Miss Em was digging through my nightstand and came across one of her puggies. She came running out of them bedroom so excited, "I found my puggie!!" I admit, I lied to her. I told her that they were baby Jensens and we were just keeping them safe for him until he makes his big arrival. Her face just dropped. It was the saddest thing ever. She went and put them back for a bit. I was in there and she came back and took one out of the drawer and asked if she could just use it until Jensen's here. She tried it out and we decided she looked silly, so she put it back. Shame on me for forgetting they were in there. It's been months though. Who'd thought she'd still want one!

state fair adventure

We took the girls to the state fair tonight. They had a blast. Both of them went on the trampolines. Emma thought it was the coolest thing ever! Daddy also took them on the space needle. We go to see and pet brand new (born this morning) baby piggies, cows & a sheep. Miss Em indulged in onion rings, a foot long, pineapple/"mommy" (raspberry - everything that is pink is "mommy") dole whips, sweet martha's cookies, roasted corn on the cob, cheese curds, fried pickles (except when she realized they were pickles she wanted nothing to do with them!), kettle corn and fruit kabobs. She shared most but insisted on having her own corn on the cob with "spicy" black pepper. And she snuck most of a 33 ounce cup of mountain dew. EEK!! We thought she'd never fall asleep, but she showed us...asleep before we hit the truck! Guess caffiene does not affect my child. We had three separate groups give the girls stuffed animals from the midway. And lots of drunk people saying that they had the biggest brown eyes. We hung out for a little bit outside of the grandstand so we could hear Jewel and Brad Paisley. After the concert, we watched the fireworks and headed home, with two very tired little girls!

music trivia queen

We had the girl's Camp Rock CD playing on the way to my mom and dad's this morning. Emma said something in the back seat, that I didn't understand. I had to ask her to repeat it 3 times. I finally got that she was saying Jonas Brudder (Jonas Brother) I acknowledged it and said yeah, it's the Jonas Brother's. Her response, no, I said Jonas Brudder. It's one Jonas Brudder. And Demi Bottle (Demi Lavato). She was right. It was just Joe Jonas & Demi Lavato singing "This is Me". She's 2. How in the heck does she pick up on these things?!

I have a feeling that I am going to be screwed when they get older and want to play music trivia...they are clones of their daddy in this respect!

bye bye puggie, day 4

Emma asked for it again today, but has been ok when I told her that the puggies went bye bye. Had we known that she was going to do as good with this as she has, we probably would have gotten rid of it a long time ago. I am so impressed and very proud!

We went to meet baby Avery today. Emma thought she was just the coolest thing. She kept walking up while I held her and gently touched her head. She loves babies!

bye bye puggie, day 3

Emma asked for the plug today. It was at nap time. She asked Grandma where it was. Grandma told her she didn't bring it today. She then asked, "Can I please have my puggie?!" Grandma didn't cave. Emma asked for it again at bedtime. When I told her it was all gone, she was fine with it.

bye bye puggie, day 2

Emma woke up happy and didn't once ask for her plug. When we were getting out of the truck this morning, she stopped to look around, like she was missing something. She went the entire day without asking for it. She didn't even ask for it at nap or bed time. Bed time was a breeze!

bye bye puggie

So, we decided that we were going to try to get rid of the plug on Saturday. Emma fell asleep right away, but had a really hard time staying asleep. We caved and gave it to her at about 2am. I think her tummy was also upset, so she was pretty miserable anyway.
Tonight we tried again. It didn't go as well getting her to sleep. She threw a MAJOR fit for about 20 minutes. When she knew I wasn't giving in she laid down and went to sleep. She slept great. One night puggie free!

what should we do for mommy's birthday?

I asked the girls this on the way home from work tonight. Miss Emma's response, "Throw it in the garbage!" For being so little, she's got the right idea...I just haven't reached the age where I am just ready to throw it in the garbage

cute little emma-isms

pezzels - PEZ candy, which she sometimes gets for going potty in the toilet.

mintens - the breath mints inside mommy's purse, which she, her sister and her cousins go looking for whenever my purse is within kid reach.

another trip to the er

Miss Emma got to take another trip to the ER this evening.

Tony always leaves old batteries on the counter by our back door for recycling. Abby and I were cleaning up in the living room. Miss Emma went into the kitchen. She was being awfully quiet. Quiet always means trouble, so I went into check on her. She climbed up on a chair by the door.

Our conversation went something like this,

me: "What are you doing?"
e: "Eating food."
me: "What kind of food?"
pause to open her hand and show me two button batteries
me: "Did you put a battery in your mouth?"
e: "Yes."
me: "Where is it now?"
e: "In my belly" big, proud smile on cute little face.
me: "Crap!!"

I called poison control. They said to bring her in for x-rays. If it was in her tummy, no big deal, she would pass it in a few days. However, if it was stuck in her esophogus it could reak major havoc. So, I dragged Tony in from outside and off we went.

Of course, everyone and their brother was up north for the long weekend, so there was no one for Abby to hang out with while we went. She had to come with. She bawled for quite awhile about how she loves her baby sister and she doesn't want anything bad to happen to her!! (Note to self...next time she says this, record it...play back when Emma is reaking havoc on her big sister's toys and Abby is screaming, "I hate my little sister!!")

We arrived at the ER and were ushered right in to triage. The nurse took Emma's vitals and thought that she was just the cutest thing. She sat in that big chair all by herself, looking SO DARN ANGELIC! Almost like she was saying, "Who me? Eat batteries? No Way! I don't get into trouble." We sat in the exam room for awhile and waited for the doc. She came in and took a listen and told us that someone from radiology would be back for us soon. What seemed like an eternity later, they came back and Mommy got to hang out with her while they took the x-rays.

We went back to our room. While waiting for the doc to come back, Emma was climbing into a little kid chair and fell out, right smack on her head. She got a nice mark on her forehead. Doc came in and said that she couldn't see anything on Emma's x-ray. She most likely didn't eat a battery. (Yea!) Emma started hollaring that she had to go potty, so I took her to the bathroom. She went, washed her hands and on the way out, walked smack into the side of the door. Another mark on her poor little - already red - forehead.

There was our Saturday...2 hours wasted, 20% on an ER trip that we really didn't need and Emma left with two owies that she otherwise wouldn't have gotten. She and Abby did get a blue popsicle, for which Tony and I got reamed out for taking them away when it was time to get into the truck. Nothing like being repremanded by a two year old.

That little girl is something else. And what a little handful!! She's my little handful though and I love her dearly!

on the road again...to potty-ing

Emma went potty twice on the toilet tonight and poop!! I think we're on the road to potty training and diaper free! Potty training is probably one of my least favorite things to do, but she's working on it! Yeah Emma!

miss emma update

Well, Emma will be two in a few days, which just blows me out of the water! I found our Baby Bjorn in the truck the other day and put Emma in it. She thought it was pretty funny. Last time she was in it, we were in Florida...over a year ago. She's obviously too big for it, but it makes me want another baby!
Emma tells me that she's going to be 2 all the time and we learned how to hold up two fingers last night. When I showed her, she gave me a little giggle.
She's growing like a weed and finally getting some more hair. We were able to put in two sprouts the other day. Now if she'd just leave them in! She's almost ready to graduate into size 5 diapers. We had to get her a size 7 shoe (!) and most of her 18-24 month pants are too short. Emma talks non-stop. She loves to sing Hannah Montana songs. Her favorite toys include Polly Pocket cars, her doll house and her baby. She can't sleep without her soft baby, blanket and pwug (plug). She loves to cuddle, she's almost always happy! She still gets a little moody around dinner time, except Green Day doesn't work to calm her down anymore. When asked what she want's for her birthday, she told me cookies. She just got her top right eye tooth in, she's still missing her bottom two. Nolan bit her cheek last week. The bruise is finally starting to go away.
We recently got bunk beds for the girls and Emma has been doing great in her big girl bed. When she wakes up, she yells Daddy until someone goes in and tells her she can get up.

Emma, by no means has enough hair to cut yet, but Auntie Jessie cleaned up her mullet and her sides. Gone is the duck tail. The back is nice and straight!! She's cute as always. Wish it would grow on top now!!

officially a BIG girl!

Well, my baby is officially a big girl.
It all happened quite suddenly. Didn't happen when she was weaned off her bottle. Not when she peed for the first time on the toilet or when she's getting rid of her bug (that would be her plug and we're not quite ready to get rid of it just yet)
Tonight, she ppooped in her diaper. Tony got her cleaned up and sent her in to sit on the potty while I took a bath. Recently she's been making grunting noises while sitting on the potty. Many times she'll tinkle. Well, tonight she dropped a few off at the pool!! My baby, er big girl, pooed on the potty!!
She has had several funnies lately. The other day she was sitting in her highchair while I made dinner. She kept pointing at the fridge and saying something. I finally caught on. She was pointing at Baby Olivia's picture, saying Jason Junior!
A few nights ago she was running around the living room with Abby's backpack. Shekept saying it was her "backcack" which we would reply, "no it's mine". Then she busts out, "Emma's backcack, seriously!" I asked her if she was sure and she looked at me and said "definite". Such big words for a little thing.

ouch

Miss Emma took a nasty spill tonight. I'm not sure exactly what she tripped on, but she fell and bit her tongue. Tons o' blood. She didn't bleed for that long, but it sure was a lot! When she was done crying, I was finally able to get her to stick her little tongue out. Looked pretty deep. She's a fast healer like daddy, we'll just have to watch it.
